"I feel like I'm just one bad decision away from being like those who live on the streets," says Erastos, who volunteers in our homeless assistance program in downtown Athens. He continues, "Talking with them, I realized how similar I am and how just a few unfortunate circumstances can lead you to experience such hardship."
He, along with several other young people and many students, gathers every month at our Multipurpose Center on Evripidou Street. After preparing packages with meals and clothes, they "hit the streets" to meet those who have faced life's harsh realities.
Additionally, each time they have their own session where they either listen to live music or discuss the issue of homelessness on an academic level.
"When we go out on our missions, we meet many people who have just taken their dose. Many lower their gaze, hide their faces, and apologize to us. However, we are not there to judge them but to show them attention and care," says another volunteer, Kyle. His friend Stachys adds, "The issue is not just to provide help but to talk with them. Ask them their name and what brought them to this difficult situation. Also, it is impressive that every time we give, we feel that we receive as well. In the end, what makes all the difference is love."
