You can't erase bad memories, but you can create new, beautiful ones. The immigrants and refugees who come to our efforts in Chania have all gone through many difficulties and we try our best to help them, with our motivation always being love.
Ashanti* from Afghanistan is one of the many who received help at our space. When he arrived at our site, he was 60 years old and while he has 7 children, he came to Greece with only his wife, three daughters, and a son who was mentally ill. According to him, the boy's psychological state collapsed during the war, when some sections of wall fell on him. He suffered a shock and since then he could not speak. He was wild and attacked his little 6-year-old sister, whom he was jealous of.
In time we got to know the rest of the family and offered them clothes, English lessons and free coffee. Before he left for Europe he told us: "Here I have received more love than I have ever received in all my years of living. Thank you!". Such words encourage us to continue to serve these people with even greater passion.
